Industrial Software Modernization

Modernize industrial software without ignoring operational reality.

We replace unstable, outdated or difficult-to-maintain applications while preserving the logic, data and integrations that keep the plant running.

Operational risk

Old software may contain years of process knowledge.

Replacing a legacy application without understanding its dependencies creates a different risk. Axyz analyzes the current system, separates its responsibilities and plans modernization around production constraints.

The goal is not merely a newer interface. It is a stable, diagnosable and maintainable application that preserves what the operation still needs.

Warning signs

When software limitations begin affecting production.

A modernization assessment connects technical symptoms with operational consequences.

01

Frequent freezes, failures or unexplained application interruptions.

02

Unstable database, RPC, API or service connections.

03

Manual workarounds created around system limitations.

04

Technology that is difficult to maintain or safely extend.

05

Missing structured logs, error codes and diagnostic tools.

06

Fragile integrations with PLCs and other plant systems.

Modernization approach

Preserve process knowledge while removing technical constraints.

The transition strategy follows the criticality of the operation and the available test windows.

01 / UNDERSTAND

Document the system before replacing it.

  • Users and operational scenarios
  • Business and process logic
  • Data and system dependencies
  • Failure modes and production risks
02 / SEPARATE

Create maintainable boundaries and reusable components.

  • Communication libraries
  • Application and process logic
  • Data persistence
  • Structured logging
03 / TRANSITION

Test and release around production conditions.

  • Representative test scenarios
  • Coordinated test windows
  • Phased or parallel operation
  • Diagnostics and continued evolution

FAQ

Questions about replacing critical software.

Does the entire system need to be replaced?

Not always. Applications can sometimes be modernized by module, integrations can be isolated, and stable components can remain temporarily. The initial assessment determines the strategy.

Can existing business logic be preserved?

Yes. Logic and operational scenarios should be documented and validated before replacement so useful process knowledge is retained.

Can Axyz integrate with PLCs and plant systems?

Yes. Our experience includes Allen-Bradley PLCs, RPC, SQL Server, SQLite, Redis, APIs and .NET libraries. Feasibility is confirmed for each infrastructure.

How do you reduce production disruption risk?

Through representative tests, coordinated windows, phased release and strong diagnostics. Risk cannot be eliminated completely, but it can be understood and managed.

Is data migration always required?

No. When data remains in compatible external systems, the new application can integrate with it. Required migrations are planned and validated separately.
